Irish-Isoke Mims was born in Ft. Myers, a small town on the west coast of Florida. During childhood her parents modeled the Christian example of being consistent in faith, prayer, attendance and participation at their family church. As a youth, Minister Mims was always captivated with the stories from the bible and would spend many hours listening to older members who were bible teachers or ministers. She was also the child musician of the community playing piano for her Sunday school at age 9 and going on to be the church’s musician for all choirs by the age of 12.
Although faithful in attendance and participation she was not faithful in heart. And at 16 she decided to not be a “hypocrite” and moved solidly to the wrong side of the fence. This led to new friends, smoking (tobacco and marijuana), hanging out in the local bars, skipping school, and being a tremendous disappointment to her parents. During these few years with the elements of street life having such a strong influence in her life she experienced many things that a young woman her age (in regular circumstances) should never have encountered.
But God in His goodness (watching over what was His) guided her through the completion of High School and to a start in University. However, no change in heart or life style choices almost proved disastrous. Drugs of choice changed to a more life threatening variety bringing with it anxiety attacks, poor grades, and the new status of unwed mother !!!
During the latter part of 1978 (not long after having delivered a healthy baby girl) postpartum depression began to pull and devour. At a crossroads, realizing that no one but Jesus can heal a mind or keep it, she accepted Christ as her savior. And much like that woman at the well, she has been compelled to tell others of how her life was forever transformed.
Rev. Mims successfully completed her studies and received her Masters of Elementary Education from Florida A&M University and has been for the past 37 years an educator in the public school system. Now as a Theater Instructor and Mentor Teacher, she continues to enrich the lives of children through her “ABC Me Do My Best”, "Daughters of the Dust and Sons of Thunder" Children of Excellence Programs in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area where she currently resides.
In 2005, Reverend Mims completed her ministerial training and a license to minister was awarded from the West Coast Center for Human Development and World Evangelism in Sarasota, Florida under Bishop Henry L. Porter. Later in 2011, she was ordained an Evangelist and Teacher by the United International Ministerial Association under Bishop Charles E. Daniels.
She presently serves as the Founder and Pastor of Woman at the Well Worldwide Ministry and Outreach, Inc. in Waldorf, Maryland. W.A.T.W is now a member in good standing with Covenant Truth Ministries under the Apostolic coverings of the Rev. Drs. Kennith and Helena Barrington.
